I am obsessed with everything mini, especially when it comes to food. Mini donuts, mini carrots, mini burgers, mini strawberries…Ok, you guys get the point. There’s just something about tiny food that brings me joy. Not only do I think small bites are super cute, but I am convinced they taste better. So you can imagine how excited I was to try St-Hubert Poutine Bites. Yup, the Quebec-based company took what is usually a ginormous Canadian dish and transformed it into a bite-sized appy we can all make at home — woot!
First, let’s talk about how easy these appetizers are to make: just pop them into an oven for 8 min at 450 degrees and you’re done. C’est tout! They come out with a crispy coating and are ready to serve; St–Hubert’s famous poutine sauce is tucked inside with stringy mozzarella and cheddar cheese so there’s no need to prepare any additional sauces. Oh, and the cheese-sauce-coating ratio is bang on. The bites just ooze gooey goodness…
Don’t let the size of the box fool you (it’s small and contains 335 g of product): these bites are actually quite filling, more so than most finger foods since they’re so rich. That being said, they are addictive so you may devour the entire box yourself, especially if you pair the poutine bites with beer — for an extra happy “appy hour” like I did…
I did save a box for hubster because I know how much he loves poutine. Unfortunately for me, he likes the bites as well (which means I’ll have to share – grrr). Oh, one thing to note: the bites are SUPER hot when they come out of the oven (the cheese and sauce bubble inside from the heat) so let them rest for a minute or two to avoid burning your mouth! I may have been slightly impatient the first time around — they just smelled so damn good! Anywho, do give this new appetizer a try the next time you cruise down the grocery store aisle ($10.99/box). It’s a great, Canadian appy to share with friends, especially during the cold winter months. I mean, who doesn’t love poutine?!
Huge thanks to the Group St-Hubert, Retail Division for sending over the St Hubert Poutine Bites and sponsoring this post! As always, all reviews and opinions are entirely my own.
