Banh Mi Boys: Sandwiches Done Right

April 25, 2013

I’ve been a big fan of Banh Mi Boys ever since they opened their doors back in 2011. Brothers David, Peter and Phil Chau know how to make a mean sandwich. Their vietnamese subs are unpretentious, filling and easy on the pocket. And their store at Queen and Spadina is the perfect pit stop on my shopping excursions.

The menu is broken down into: banh mis (sandwiches), steamed bao (buns) and Korean tacos:

The sandwiches are made with your choice of meat (or tofu) and topped with pickled daikon and carrots, Sriracha hot sauce and cilantro (my fave). Oh, and all the bread comes from their family bakery.

This week I tried the Kalbi Beef Banh Mi (short ribs, kimchi and Asian bbq sauce). It was delish and the combo of flavours and textures was spot on!

One note of caution: be prepared for long line-ups because this joint is popular! It usually takes me about 20 min to order, pay and get my food. But it’s definitely worth the wait! Oh, and seating is limited so I usually grab a sandwich and devour it at a park nearby. They just opened their second location at Yonge and Gerrard which is great news for anyone living or working in the area!
