Ask any of my friends to name my favourite spirit and they’ll be quick to tell you that it’s tequila. I know some of you just cringed, but I have an undying love for the drink. To me, it is beautiful. It makes me happy, tastes great (mmm blue agave) and never gives me hangovers. In fact, I like it so much that I rarely mix it with anything. But occasionally – especially during festive days like Cinco de Mayo – I have a little fun in the mixology department. I mean, what better way to celebrate the Mexican holiday than with a margarita?! For that, I turned to my friends at the LCBO for a mucho simple recipe…
Classic Margarita Recipe
Ingredients
makes 1 cocktail
1 oz tequila
1 oz fresh lime juice
1 oz orange liqueur
2 lime wedges (optional)
Kosher salt (optional)
Directions
1. Rub a wedge of lime around the rim of a chilled margarita glass and salt the rim (optional). Fill glass with ice.
2. Shake liquid ingredients (tequila, fresh lime juice and orange liqueur) vigorously in an ice-filled cocktail shaker and strain into the prepared glass.
3. Squeeze remaining lime wedge over the drink and drop it in.
Now, for those of you who don’t feel like making your own margaritas on Cinco de Mayo, come join me for a fiesta at The Drake Hotel in Toronto!
Better yet, I’ve partnered up with the LCBO to give away TWO pairs of tickets to the event. Just comment below telling me what your fave tequila brand or tequila cocktail is. Oh, and make sure you also fill out the Rafflecopter entry below (that’s how the winners will be randomly selected). Hope to see you all there. I’ll be by the mariachi band!
