Babies are expensive. Something I was repeatedly told by my family and new-mom friends. But I didn’t realize just how expensive until my hubby and I started shopping around for little L. We found ourselves in dozens of stores comparing finds, and since quality, cost and style are all equally important to us, the options quickly became limited. Until one glorious night at Walmart. We just happened to walk by the baby section on a regular, non-baby related mission and I was floored: I couldn’t believe how many things I wanted from the shelves!! Don’t get me wrong, Walmart has always had a great selection of baby gear, but they’ve REALLY stepped it up with their new George Baby collection.
I started seeing the George Baby products pop up in mid-February and eagerly re-visited the baby section every time we were in Walmart to see if they had brought in more items — and they did! I’m happy to report that the line is now fully available in stores and online across Canada. From baby clothes to essential nursery items, we found so many things we needed. Here’s what we picked up for our little man…
100% Organic Cotton Flannel Sheets
Both for the crib and bassinet, these were arguably our best finds. Sheets are sooo expensive (we found some upwards of $50 in baby stores) so we were super excited to snag the adorable, 100% organic cotton flannel sheets at Walmart. They’re really soft and I LOVE the lamb detail (Greek hubster is also impressed). For those of you who aren’t into the grey/lamb pattern, I spotted pink and blue options with different designs too.
100% Cotton Baby Clothes
Confession: I love everything mini so shopping for baby clothes is my weakness. While I’ve found cute outfits in various stores around Toronto, it’s hard to justify the price tags when I know our little man will quickly outgrow everything we buy him. But one thing I never want to compromise on is the fabric of the clothing because it comes in such close contact with his skin. Determined to find affordable cotton clothes, we headed to Walmart. Check out our first haul!!
Yup, everything from sleepers and pants to hats and booties made with 100% cotton. They even have very stylish (and practical) items like this reversible hoodie:
Baby Essentials
Like most first-time moms, I surveyed everyone I knew to see what’s on their baby essentials list so I could be prepared (well, as prepared as one can get). Receiving blankets were on everyone’s list so I was thrilled to find this 4-piece, 100% organic cotton pack at Walmart with the same, cute lamb theme as our sheets:
They are machine washable (woot, woot), a convenient size (30″ x 30″) and just the right thickness so baby is comfortable: not too hot, not too cold.
Also on the coveted mommy lists: wearable blankets. After reading up on sleep safety and getting advice from my midwife and prenatal class instructor, I can say that most people recommend swaddling and wearable blankets to reduce risk of suffocation while bebe is sleeping in a crib/bassinet. It’s a great way to keep baby cozy while avoiding loose items in their sleep space. Luckily, we found three options at Walmart that we loved: a cotton wearable lamb blanket, a knit wearable lamb blanket and an easy lamb swaddle!
Nursery Accessories
Ok, now the fun part: the decor and accessories. Who doesn’t love adding different patterns, colours and fabrics to a room?! And when that room is a very special nursery for your first born, it’s even more exciting. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the new George Baby line has a wide range of items — from storage boxes to comforters to help add some style to the nursery. I really love this Lamb Blanket which I’ve draped on my nursing chair (I hear I’ll be spending a lot of time sitting here)…
Squealed when I spotted this cute Lamb Security Blanket that I’ve displayed on his dresser…
But I think my favourite accessory is this George Baby Reversible Lamb Quilt. It adds a beautiful, soft texture to the room and complements our neutral tones perfectly. It’s also lightly filled and machine washable. I can see us getting a lot of use out of this blanket (tummy time anyone?!)…
So, what do you guys think of the new George Baby line?! In preparation for bebe’s arrival, I threw everything in the wash and am super impressed by the quality so far. Hope little L. loves his new lamb outfits and accessories as much as we do!
