It’s easy to score a hotel with breathtaking views on an island like Santorini, but given recent spikes in tourism (thanks to the perfectly Instagramable vistas at every turn) some are beginning to slip in the service category. There are, however, a few properties that are still doing Greek hospitality right: Santorini Princess Spa Hotel is one such gem. And we had the pleasure of staying there recently thanks to a partnership with booking.com…
Perched on the caldera between the Imerovigli and Fira, the 19-room boutique hotel prides itself in giving each and every guest as much (or as little) attention as desired. They do this by having 1.57 staff per room — a stat that is unprecedented on the island. This translates into a spotless property and, perhaps more importantly, grants staff the time to have one-on-one conversations with guests throughout their stay…
What makes Santorini Princess Spa Hotel unique, is that their hospitality extends beyond property walls: they truly believe in helping visitors have the best possible time on the island so they leave with vivid memories and a longing to return. They achieve this by sharing stories about the history and culture of Santorini, giving local recommendations for where to eat and play and by arranging anything you could possibly need to explore their beautiful home…
Having visited the island before, we were in search of a quiet retreat far removed from the swarms of tourists plaguing Oia and Fira — a place where we could sit back and take in the glorious landscape without distraction. Given the location of Santorini Princess Spa Hotel, it’s exactly what we got. Peace and unparalleled beauty…
You’ll probably want to rent a car if you stay here (although they do offer a great shuttle service), but the parking is plentiful and free. Having a car also gives you the freedom to check out the island’s many wineries, local restaurants, beaches and quaint villages. That is, if you can peel yourself away from this spectacular pool…
It’s all in the details at Santorini Princess Spa Hotel. The owner proudly told us where he sources everything from water (they buy the priciest so you can drink straight from the tap) to the local honey they serve at breakfast. Oh yes, a bit more about the food… While some hotel restaurants are an afterthought, the lounge restaurant at Santorini Princess Spa Hotel is worth a visit even if you’re not staying at the hotel (just make sure you book ahead). They serve up some of the best dishes we’ve tasted on the island. Order the Swordfish Souvlaki or the Seabass Fillet at lunch. You can thank me later…
After your meal, retreat to your cave-like room (they’re constructed in traditional Cycladic style) for a little mid-day nap. The rooms are spacious, immaculately clean and a welcome escape from the beaming sun. Did I mention the dreamy views? I considered moving in so I could wake up in this state of bliss every day…
But seriously, I didn’t want to leave. Luckily, the hotel empathizes and encourages guests to linger on the property even after check-out! Can you believe that?? Having stayed at hundreds of luxury properties around the globe, I’ve never been told I could hang out as long as I’d like. There’s nothing like loading up the car, going for a swim, using the spa, having a shower (yup, they’ll grant you access to that too) and enjoying a meal before leaving Santorini Princess Spa Hotel for your flight/ferry home. Now this is going above and beyond expectations — Greek hospitality like no other…
I’ve always believed that luxury should feel comfortable and it’s evident that Santorini Princess Spa Hotel operates under this principle. Neither pretentious nor stuffy, they made us feel like royalty and treated our family as if we were an extension of theirs. A special thank you to Georgia, Dimitri and Mr Zissis for their seemingly boundless hospitality. We hope to return with Little L very soon — perhaps to experience the Presidential Suites in Akrotiri!
Good To Know…
- The hotel is 3.5 km from Fira and you can hike up to the centre of Imerovigli in about 20 min.
- Wi-Fi is free throughout the property.
- Breakfast buffet is included in the room rate and served daily in the restaurant or can be brought to your room.
- There’s a small spa which has a sauna, hot tub and treatment rooms.
- Shuttle services to and from the airport and around the island can be arranged (additional cost).
- For more glowing reviews of the property, check out what these guests had to say.
- If you’re booking this OR any other stay use this link for $40 CAD off on booking.com!
- The hotel even has the cutest little church we’ve ever seen onsite…

June 10, 2018 at 6:59 amSantorini is paradise on earth and it’s on the top of my bucket list for a while now. This spa hotel seems like an exceptional idea to stay there while exploring the island. How many days would be enough to see all of the highlights there?

June 10, 2018 at 7:49 pmIf you like exploring at a slower pace (and want to check out some beaches, wineries, a few villages) I’d say 4/5 days. If you are on a budget and want to zip in and out, 2/3 days is good too! I recommend renting a car so you can explore at your own pace.
