Attention food and film lovers: A new festival dedicated to two of your favourite F words is launching this fall. The Toronto Food Film Fest kicks off on October 4, 2019, celebrating independent filmmaking, food, and culture.
The festival will focus on films about food while indulging our senses and appetite for new experiences – because if there’s anything better than food, it’s watching movies about food. The two-day fest will take place at four different venues in Toronto’s Little Italy; The Royal Cinema (608 College St), The Depanneur (1033 College St), Super Wonder Gallery (584 College St) and The Emmet Ray (924 College St).
There will be six film screenings from local and international filmmakers, workshops from over 15 speakers and presenters, panels and more than ten unique food experiences at the festival. The screenings will include a combination of shorts, features, documentaries, and dramas. The bonus? Tasty snacks will be curated to pair perfectly with each screening and session at the festival.
Toronto Food Film Fest has partnered with The Depanneur to feature delicious meals and exciting workshops by local chefs and seasonal ingredients that will be announced later in September. With so many stimulating films about food from around the world and panels and workshops to experience creative meals, this festival is promising to be one that Toronto foodies will not want to miss out on.
The first day of the festival will highlight the premiere of Director Miguel Ángel Jiménez’s opening night presentation of ‘A God in Each Lentil’ as well as a beer tasting session lead by Peat Brothers of Longslice Brewery. Look out for their specialty brew during happy hour!
The second day of the festival will feature the Canadian Premiere of Lynn Hamrick’s ‘Hiro’s Table’ and the Toronto premiere of ‘STAGE: The Culinary Internship’ will be the closing night presentation.
Considering the nature of the festival, it’s quite thoughtful and progressive to have a panel titled; ‘#WasteNot: Sustainability in the Food Industry.’ The conversation will encourage passionate industry experts, such as; Ryan Crawford of Backhouse and John Morris of 360 The Restaurant at the CN Tower, to share their stories and sustainable practices they are implementing in their kitchens.
The festival is also setting an example towards a zero waste future by partnering with ReThink Resource, Canada’s most environmentally friendly waste management company, and using fully-compostable serving containers.
Tickets can be purchased online at www.torontofoodfilmfest.com/tickets, or during the festival at the box office. Film screenings are $14 each, panels are $10, and workshops and meals will vary in prices. Discounted tickets for seniors, students, and group rates are also available. Tickets will include an invitation to the closing awards party (limited spots available). The Depanneur dining experiences will be available to purchase when the menu is announced in September.
