When the words “St. Kitts-Nevis Restaurant Week” and “Follow Your Heart” (the slogan for the Eastern Caribbean island) appeared in my email box, I knew it was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. I mean, we all know that my heart always leads to food — so there’s that, but the idea of experiencing Kittitian cuisine WITH locals made this particular trip a special one…
I’m a firm believer that food is the best gateway into different cultures and can tell you that the people I met in the kitchens, at local food stands and around the table during St. Kitts-Nevis Restaurant Week were why I fell in love with the island. Although the annual celebration only happens once a year (and features a special ingredient — this year: coconut), all of the places we visited are open year-round so I thought it would be helpful to do a little roundup for you guys. Put these culinary gems on your list — your stomach will thank me later!
8 Best Spots To Eat And Drink In St. Kitts
1. Marshall’s
There are some restaurants you step inside and instantly feel the love — Marshall’s is one such place. Maybe it was because we dined their during Restaurant Week, but it truly felt like we were invited to a family reunion!
The internationally-trained chef who heads up the kitchen (Verral Marshall) is much-loved by the community and has been serving guests at his restaurant for almost two decades. Your stomach will be in good hands here — the only thing you’ll need to decide is what to order and where to sit (pool-side or perched above the Caribbean Sea)…
2. Sprat Net
The energy at Sprat Net is UNREAL. This, my friends, is where you come to mingle with the locals to have a good lime (not time, LIME — slang for hang out/chill)…
Owned by some of the island’s best-known fisherman, their motto is “we only eat the ones we catch” so you can be sure that everything is local and fresh. The lobster is some of the best I’ve ever had — ours was prepped by the energetic kitchen staff and a very special guest: celebrity chef Pino Luongo who flew down from NYC to participate in Restaurant Week!
3. The Pavilion Beach Club – Christophe Harbour
Paradise found. I mean, I felt like we walked into a postcard as soon as we stepped foot on this property…
The bungalows, the pool, the restaurant — everything is exquisite. Note: you must either be a guest or member to have breakfast or lunch here so definitely check out their beachside bungalows (named by Travel + Leisure as one of the “world’s most romantic hotels”). But worry not if you decide to stay elsewhere, you can make dinner reservations (Tuesday-Saturday) or visit their other property below (#4) which is equally breathtaking…
4. Salt Plage
If there’s only one place you visit on this list, I really do hope it’s Salt Plage! Wow, what a special little spot on the island. The cocktails, the food, the buzz, the live music, the epic sunset…
There aren’t many places on the planet that have a vibe like this — perhaps the reason Salt Plage was named by Condé Nast Traveller as one of the top beachside cafes in the world…
5. Ital Creations
This spot is a must for anyone who is vegetarian or vegan. I am not, but I still loved it! They grow almost everything they serve so this is as farm-to-table as it gets! A true taste of the island…
While you’re there, ask Yayah to give you a tour of their family-owned organic farm. She’s certainly one of the most knowledgeable and interesting women on the island…
6. The Fisherman’s Village At Park Hyatt
Park Hyatt St. Kitts Christophe Harbour serves up delicious local and international cuisine in their three signature restaurants. We dined at The Fisherman’s Village which pulls design inspo from the huts and berths that once lined the coastline.
Known for their ocean-to-table cuisine, you’ll want to order alllll the seafood here. Cocktails are also a must as you take in the glorious sunset…
7. Serendipity
With stunning views of the harbour, warm service and mouthwatering dishes, Serendipity is a solid choice when it comes to al fresco dining in St. Kitts. Ingredients are local (some even grown in their own fresh herb garden), the kitchen is ambitious and the owners are fully invested in giving guests a memorable meal…
8. Spice Mill
I highly recommend spending an entire day here. Why? They just so happen to be located on my favourite beach (Cockleshell Beach) and have everything you’ll need for an epic beach day: lounge chairs, music, incredible cocktails and a beautiful view…
Do not leave without trying their new HiBiscus Spirits. Infused with handpicked flowers on the island, they have a unique Caribbean taste and are a great base for those colourful beachside cocktails…
Hope this list helps inspire a delicious trip to St. Kitts! While you’re there, make sure to check out El Fredo’s, Muggsy’s (Reef Bar and Grill) and Cooper’s as well. These three were highly recommended by locals, but I sadly didn’t have a chance to try them. Reason to go back? My heart says yes…
A huge thanks to St. Kitts Tourism for hosting me on this press trip and introducing me to this special island. As always, reviews and opinions are my very own.
