December 26, 2012. Instead of buying more stuff, I bought myself a website that Boxing Day. I had no idea what I was doing (nor where it would lead), but I knew I wanted a home on the interwebs. I thought I was too late to the blogging game. I was not. Monetization and growth weren’t the objectives (which I was repeatedly told was to my detriment), but building a strong community was. Little did I know that countless social media platforms would follow and this little community of mine would grow like a beautifully-nurtured plant (RIP to the real ones I’ve killed 🪴). Well, I’m glad we started celebrating the holidays early this year because neither of us are smiling right now. Luka has a fever and I threw out my back soooo it’s another Christmas on our own🥺 I was hoping to make up for last year, but I guess there’s always 2022! Travel buddies can either make or break a trip. These guys made mine ❤️ We left Canada as strangers (sounds odd, but that’s how most press trips work) and returned from @travelsaintlucia as a family. The group dynamic was BEYOND and the energy was electric. I’m so happy I said yes to this opportunity before travel restrictions clouded the skies once again. It felt so good doing what I love most. Back to @travelsaintlucia like a boomerang and starting this trip on an incredible high at @jademountainstlucia with my bestie @ildiko.siklodi. I’ve heard about this family-owned luxury resort for years, but to be honest it’s more than I could’ve ever dreamt. The attentive staff (24 hr butler service), fresh food (much of it from their own organic farm), epic views & experiences (like artisanal chocolate making) at this resort are unparalleled. 𝘛𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘛𝘰 𝘍𝘢𝘳𝘮. Baking with chef Luka always includes a lesson in agriculture. As we made this Hot Milk Cake together, we chatted about how some families here in Ontario dedicate their lives to dairy farming so we can buy the milk we need to make our cake (and for him to sip on while we make said cake 😂). We also chatted about other ingredients like butter and cheese that are derived from @ontariodairy. Even though he's just a toddler, I think it's really important for him to understand where ingredients come from and to appreciate farmers, like @dayslikethisphotos, who live in our communities and work tirelessly from sunrise to sunset to ensure they're providing a high-quality dairy product across the province.⠀

For this edition of #NeverHaveIEverTO, I went to @cntower with @dineandfash to check out the world’s highest wine cellar and it was 🙌🏽 We learned about their oldest, most expensive and exclusive bottles and then had a chance to sip on a glass while we watched the epic sunset. Confession: I always try to sneak veggies into Luka's meals, but while doing so I've realized that I need to do the same for myself! You guys know I'm constantly on the go which means I often don't get the nutrients my body needs. So I started a new routine this year: the morning @vitamixca smoothie. I build it using seasonal ingredients (beets, apples and carrots in this case) and toss in some other fruit and veg for a healthy start to my day. I'm not sure what took me so long, but this small change in routine has made such a 𝘩𝘶𝘨𝘦 difference! I feel so much more energized & focused and look forward to experimenting with different ingredients every day. Fall Harvest Smoothie

INGREDIENTS

2 cups of raw beets, roughly chopped
1/2 cup of apple, roughly chopped
1 cup of fresh pineapple, roughly chopped
1/2 of a banana
1 cup of frozen strawberries
1 tbsp of fresh ginger
1 cup of freshly-squeezed orange juice
1 cup of fresh carrot juice

METHOD

Place all ingredients together in your @vitamixca blender (I have and LOVE the Ascent A3500), press the "smoothie" program, pour into a glass and garnish with a beet leaf. Makes 2 servings. 📷 @ildiko.siklodi
