I love learning how to make things. I especially love it when I get to eat the results! So when Pizza Pizza invited me and the lovely Marissa and Iva to make pizza with the pros last week, I didn’t think twice before jumping on board.
We arrived at the Pizza Pizza training facility eager to learn all there is to know about Canada’s pizza pioneer – the chain that sells more than 13, 750, 000 slices of pizza every year! After touring their classrooms, we each claimed a pizza station (MasterChef styles) and began rolling out our dough. The goal? To make it even, round and puncture it with tiny holes to prevent any bubbling in the crust. Next up was the sauce: we poured a ladleful of goodness in the middle of the pizza and worked our way to the edge of the dough in a circular motion. I was obviously very amused by this step…
Then we sprinkled on the cheese, added our toppings (meats first, then veg – mushrooms were last because they burn quickly) and slid our pies into the oven. I waited with bated breath to see the fate of my pizza. I was super happy with the result and devoured way too many slices that night!
But the best part of the entire experience was meeting the soon-to-be franchisee owners on-site. They were so passionate about the business and eager to learn the ropes! From restaurant rush simulations to mastering the software, these guys recieve some intense training at the facility. They also make countless pizzas to perfect the craft – which they donate to Second Harvest. But Pizza Pizza’s generosity doesn’t stop there: in addition to sponsoring hundreds of community initiatives, they’ve raised more than $1,000,000 for children’s charities across Canada through their Slices for Smiles Foundation!
Oh, and one more act of kindness: they’ve given me a $50 gift card to giveaway to one lucky reader. Just comment below and share your favourite Pizza Pizza memory with me. Make sure you fill out the Rafflecopter box below too. Good luck!
Update: thanks to everyone who shared their comments. The lucky winner is Colleen M.!
