Art, Photography and Music: A Night At The AGO

November 15, 2013

So last week, I attended a pretty epic evening at the AGO. Not only was it First Thursdays (if you haven’t been to their monthly party series, you NEED to go), but it was a night to celebrate the four talented photographers who were shortlisted for the $50,000 Aimia | AGO Photography Prize.

The Aimia | AGO Photography Prize is Canada’s largest photography award. And the best part is that the winner is selected by the public! This year, more than 25,000 people voted for Canada’s very own Erin Shirreff. Born in Kelowna, B.C., Erin combines photography, video and sculpture to explore the act of looking. Her long-duration videos are assembled from hundreds of photographs. Her work is truly mesmerizing!

After wandering through the galleries and admiring the work of all the photographers, I joined in on the rest of the First Thursday festivities. The night was filled with incredible food, people and music (the performance by Zaki Ibrahim literally took my breath away). A beautiful energy pulsed through the AGO for the entire evening. I was reminded of how much I truly love Toronto!
